Spotlight on Ihor Tsurkan: Hope in Kherson’s Darkest Days
The team at UAid Direct has been honored to work with many incredible individuals who risk their lives to provide aid and support to those in war-torn Ukraine. One of these extraordinary individuals is Ihor Tsurkan, a volunteer leader in Kherson.
We first began working with Ihor when Kherson, on the Dnipro’s right bank, was still under Russian occupation. This was long before the destruction of the dam that flooded much of the city in 2023. His story is one of courage, resourcefulness, and an unbreakable commitment to his community.

This past month, UAid Direct achieved a remarkable milestone by delivering more than 13.4 tons of essential aid to the people of Ukraine. These deliveries mark a significant step in our ongoing humanitarian efforts as we strive to meet the critical needs of communities across the country. Now, as winter approaches, we are preparing for the challenges that lie ahead, reorganizing in Kyiv and strategizing for what will be a tough season for many Ukrainians.
Standing Strong with Kherson — Delivering Hope and Aid in Uncertain Times
Since June 2022, UAid Direct has delivered essential aid to Kherson, a frontline city under constant threat from enemy forces. We’ve completed 52 deliveries, including medical supplies for hospitals and maternity wards. Recently, we supported a safe space run by Father Ihor Makar, providing generators, UV lamps, and arts supplies. With your donations, we can continue helping Kherson’s most vulnerable.
The Unyielding Spirit of Father Ihor Makar: A Story of Faith, Courage, and Community
For over twenty years, Father Ihor Makar, a pastor of the Greek Catholic Church, has been a beacon of hope for the people of Kherson, Ukraine. In the early 2000s, he left his home in western Ukraine to establish a Greek Catholic community in the southern region of the country. August Update – 3.8 Tons of Aid Delivered Across Ukraine
We are thrilled to share our latest August report on the incredible progress UAid Direct has made with the help of our amazing partners and generous donors. Despite the challenges on the ground, we have successfully delivered 3,851 kilograms of aid to cities and villages across Ukraine, ensuring that critical medical supplies reach the most vulnerable — including children’s hospitals and maternity clinics.
UAid Direct Brings Light to Nikopol’s Children Amidst the Darkness
Nikopol has been heavily impacted by the war, with nearly 40% of its population fleeing due to ongoing artillery attacks. Despite the difficult circumstances, UAid Direct and UAid Direct USA, with the support of donors, has been able to provide relief to the remaining families, particularly the children. Since 2022, we have brought toys, art supplies, and sweets to brighten their days. With the help of local community workers, we’ve created a safe space for children to play, create, and share meals. This effort, made possible with the help of PlebeianHelpers for Ukraine, provides much-needed joy and normalcy to children living through unimaginable challenges.
