UAid Direct USA Joins Partners for World Health Fundraiser in Maine

UAid Direct USA co-founder Rich Comeau represented the organization at the Partners for World Health (PWH) fundraiser in Portland, Maine, on October 1, sharing with donors how medical aid moves from a warehouse in the United States to healthcare facilities across Ukraine.

Partners for World Health has now shipped 23 full 40-foot containers of medical supplies to Ukraine, six of them in partnership with UAid Direct. The sixth joint container is now making its way to Ukraine, where UAid Direct’s ground team is preparing to receive it, process the shipment and coordinate delivery of the medical supplies and equipment to healthcare facilities and organizations throughout the country.

Rich spoke about both the impact of this aid and the logistics required to get it where it is needed. For donors, it was an opportunity to hear what happens after a container leaves the United States—and what receiving and distributing humanitarian aid actually looks like on the ground in a country at war.

That last mile matters.

A container arriving in Ukraine is not the end of the job. Supplies must be received, unloaded, inventoried, sorted and then transported—sometimes hundreds of miles—to hospitals, clinics and organizations serving communities affected by the war. UAid Direct’s team and volunteers in Ukraine handle that critical work.

The evening also highlighted the extraordinary reach of Partners for World Health beyond Ukraine. Other speakers shared successful projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon, including providing protective equipment for healthcare workers responding to Ebola and helping equip a modern maternity hospital.

PWH also supports people closer to home in Maine, including programs that make mobility equipment more affordable and accessible to those who need it.

The fundraiser was a tremendous success, helping PWH continue its work recovering usable surplus medical supplies and equipment and putting those resources to work instead of allowing them to go to waste.

UAid Direct USA deeply values its partnership with Partners for World Health. Their ability to source and prepare medical supplies, combined with UAid Direct’s logistics network and ground team in Ukraine, means equipment can move from surplus in the United States to places where it can make a very real difference.

And the partnership is continuing.

UAid Direct and PWH are already in the early stages of planning another container for Ukraine next year.
